What is Pokemon?
Pokémon is a massive Japanese media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri, beginning with video games in 1996 and expanding to anime, movies, a trading card game, and more. The franchise is centered on a world where humans, known as "trainers," catch, train, and battle creatures called Pokémon, which are creatures with unique designs, abilities, and powers. Pokémon is one of the highest-grossing media franchises in the world and includes over 1,000 different species of Pokémon.

Bulbasaur
Bulbasaur is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, known for the plant bulb on its back that grows from a seed planted at birth. It evolves into Ivysaur and then Venusaur. The bulb absorbs sunlight to grow, allowing Bulbasaur to sustain itself and also use vines in battle.
Charmander
Charmander is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, known for the flame on its tail, which signifies its health and mood. It evolves into Charmeleon at level 16 and then into Charizard at level 36. Charmander is a starter Pokémon in games like Red and Blue and is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock-type attacks.
Squirtle
Squirtle is a Water-type "Tiny Turtle" Pokémon that evolves into Wartortle and then Blastoise. It's a starter Pokémon from the Kanto region, known for being able to shoot water from its mouth and for its tough shell which it can withdraw into for protection. Squirtle first appeared in the original Pokémon Red and Blue games and is a popular choice for new trainers.
Pikachu
Pikachu is a popular, Electric-type mouse Pokémon, known for its yellow fur, long ears with black tips, red cheeks that store electricity, and lightning bolt-shaped tail. It is a mascot for the Pokémon franchise, famous for its role in the anime as Ash Ketchum's companion, and it evolves into Raichu using a Thunder Stone.
Ekans
Ekans is a purple, serpentine Poison-type Pokémon from Generation I, known as the "Snake Pokémon". It evolves into Arbok at level 22. Ekans is a stealthy hunter that lives in grasslands and forests, where it can swallow prey larger than itself by dislocating its jaw, though this can make it vulnerable if it eats too much.
Butterfree
Butterfree is a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon that is the final evolutionary stage of Caterpie. It's known for its ability to release a sleep-inducing powder, and its large wings are covered in a water-repellent, toxic powder that helps it fly in the rain and gather nectar. It evolves from Metapod at level 10, and is a friendly, social Pokémon that lives in forests and grasslands.
